Texas Pay Digs: Everything You Need to Know Before Digging
⛏️ Rocky Creek Screen Dig FAQ
What is a pay dig?
A pay dig gives you access to a designated site where you can search for artifacts and keep what you find. At Rocky Creek, you’ll dig in areas with a history of artifact finds and use our screening tables to sift through the dirt.
Every dig is different, and finds aren’t guaranteed—but the excitement is in the search! We’d love to see photos of what you uncover. 📸
Do I need experience? Is digging strenuous?
No experience is needed. Beginners and experienced diggers are welcome, and our team will explain how to use the screening tables.
You’ll move and sift dirt using your arms and hands. Digging can be physical, so please consider your comfort and ability before booking.
Can kids participate?
Yes! Kids 15 and under dig free with a paying adult. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Please keep children close to you and at your screening table.
What should I bring?
We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, gloves, a hat, and sturdy shoes. Bring any other personal items you’ll need for a comfortable day outdoors. 🧢
Will I have my own screening table? Can someone share it?
Yes. Your reservation includes your own table, and you may share it with someone in your party if you choose. Each participant must pay the regular dig fee, even if they don’t plan to move much dirt. Kids 15 and under are free with a paying adult.
Can I walk around or surface hunt?
Please stay at your screening table or nearby. Walking the property, hand digging, and surface hunting aren’t allowed unless you receive permission from our team.
What if I find something valuable?
Any artifacts you find are yours to keep! Enjoy the excitement of uncovering a piece of Texas history. 🏹
Are there bathrooms?
There are no restrooms at the dig site. Please plan ahead and bring any supplies you may need. A gas station with public restrooms is nearby.
Where are the closest hotels?
Killeen is the closest city and has hotels at a range of prices. Rates vary, so check current listings when planning your visit.
How do I book?
Visit TexasPayDigs.com, choose an available date and time, and follow the booking instructions. Review the terms and waiver before completing your reservation. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your booking details.
Can I get a refund if I can’t make it?
Bookings and deposits are non-refundable because spaces are limited and the site is prepared in advance. If you contact us ahead of time, we may be able to reschedule you, depending on availability.
What if there’s bad weather?
Digs are generally held rain or shine. If severe weather makes digging unsafe, or the site is too muddy for safe access or screening, we may need to reschedule. We’ll contact you with available options. 🌧️
